Website packages are useful when they define scope and dangerous when they hide it. The word “package” implies you know what you are getting, but two quotes at similar prices can differ enormously in what actually gets delivered.
This page sets out what a package should specify, so you can compare properly – whether you end up working with us or not.
What a package should state explicitly
- Page count – and what happens if you need more. This is the single biggest driver of cost.
- Who writes the content – the most commonly fudged item. If you write it, you save money and it takes longer. If they write it, that is real work and should be priced.
- Revision rounds – unlimited revisions is rarely genuinely unlimited, and unstated revisions become an argument later.
- Who owns the site – if the answer is not you, understand exactly what happens if you leave.
- What is ongoing – hosting, maintenance, domain and support are separate from the build and should be priced separately.
- Whether tracking is included – a site launched without conversion tracking cannot be measured, so you will never know if it worked.
Cheap, mid and custom
At the low end you are buying a configured template with your content in it. That is a legitimate purchase if you need a credible presence and nothing more, and for plenty of businesses it is the right call. The limitation is that it will not be built around producing enquiries.
The middle is where most business sites should sit – a proper structure, a page per service, content written for search, and tracking configured. Fully custom design earns its cost when you have unusual requirements or brand is genuinely central to your market. Most businesses do not need it and are sold it anyway.
Common questions
What should a small business website package include?
At minimum: a defined page count, clarity on who writes content, a stated number of revision rounds, ownership of the finished site, and conversion tracking configured before launch.
Why do website quotes vary so much?
Almost always undefined scope. A quote with no page count, no content plan and no revision limit is an estimate rather than a price.
Is a cheap website package worth it?
If you need a credible presence and nothing more, often yes. It stops being worth it when the site needs to generate enquiries, because that requires structure and tracking that cheap builds skip.
Should I pay monthly or once?
Once, with separate hosting and maintenance, keeps you in control. Monthly packages that bundle everything often mean you never own the site and cannot leave without starting again.
